I use archival art paper and Caran d’Ache pencils to create your portraits to ensure longevity and durability preserving artwork for future generations. The high-quality papers are 140 -220 gsm acid-free, and pH balanced, ensuring it resists yellowing, fading, and deterioration over time.

To achieve a highly accurate likeness of a subject I work from your digital photographs sent to me via email. See FAQs below for examples of a well composed photograph.

A digital composition will be created for your approval, along with confirmation of the portrait size, delivery date, and address.
I will request a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the agreed price. Then the drawing process begins.

On completion of your portrait, a scanned copy will be emailed to you for review. If you are satisfied I will request that the balance payment be made, on its receipt the portrait will be promptly dispatched to you.

I work from digital photographs so establishing the key reference photo is very important.
Here you can see two examples of well lit photographs. Notice how even the lighting is – no harsh shadows also note the eye-level angle.
If the colours and reflections of your subjects eyes is visible in the photo then you are on the right track quality wise.
Professionally taken photographs are preferred, but high-quality smartphone images can also be acceptable as long as they are well taken.
Screen captures or images downloaded from social media platforms are usually not suitable generally being of lower qualty.
Pencil is my preferred medium for creating portraits due to its ability to convey the power of monochrome. The simplicity of monochrome directs your attention to the composition, form, and emotion without the distraction of color. Pencil allows for fine, detailed work and subtle gradations across a broad spectrum of tones, from the lightest grays to the deepest blacks. This versatility enables me to achieve intricate details and soft transitions, adding depth and dimension to my artworks and defining my particular style.
My preferred method of payment for UK clients is bank transfer, inc. bank transfer via PayPal.
Once a composition has been established, a standard single subject drawing typically takes about 2-3 weeks to complete. However, this timeframe can vary depending on the complexity of the drawing.
Yes this can be discussed. As a rule, I prefer to work from a photo of the subjects taken together. If this isn’t possible, I can consider creating separate smaller portraits of each subject.

Once your portrait is completed, you will receive an email with an image of the drawing for your approval. If you are not satisfied with the artwork, you are under no obligation to purchase it. Similarly, if you receive your portrait and are not happy with it, you can return it within 14 days for a refund, excluding return postage costs.
All artwork is fully insured during transit. If your drawing arrives damaged, please contact me to arrange for its return in the original packaging, ensuring you keep all receipts for records.
